Ryota Tsuzuki's Club Football Journey

Ryota Tsuzuki was born in Heguri, Nara, Japan. After finishing high school at Kunimi High School in Nagasaki, he began his professional football career.

Starting with Gamba Osaka

In 1997, Ryota joined Gamba Osaka, a team in Japan's top football league, the J1 League. He made his first professional appearance on November 11, 1998. By the year 2000, he became the main goalkeeper for Gamba Osaka. He played many important games for the team.

Moving to Urawa Reds

At the end of the 2002 season, Ryota moved to Urawa Reds, another big club in the J1 League. Here, he competed for the goalkeeper spot. From 2005 onwards, he was usually the first-choice goalkeeper, except for 2006 when he had an injury.

Winning Championships with Urawa Reds

Ryota had a very successful time at Urawa Reds. The team won the J1 League championship in 2006. They also won the J.League Cup in 2003 and the Emperor's Cup twice, in 2005 and 2006.

Success in Asia and Worldwide

Urawa Reds also did well in international competitions. They won the 2007 AFC Champions League in 2007, which is a major tournament for clubs in Asia. After that, they played in the FIFA Club World Cup and finished in third place.

Later Career and Retirement

From 2009, Ryota faced more injuries, which meant he played less often. In June 2010, he moved to Shonan Bellmare. He announced his retirement from professional football on January 18, 2011.

Playing for Japan: National Team Career

Ryota Tsuzuki also represented his country, Japan, in football.

Youth National Team

In September 2000, Ryota was chosen for the Japan U-23 national team. This team played in the 2000 Summer Olympics. However, he did not play in any matches during that tournament.

Senior National Team Debut

In February 2001, Ryota was selected for the Japan senior national team. He joined the squad for the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup. He made his first appearance for the national team on April 8, 2001, in a game against Brazil. Even though he played only one game in that tournament, Japan finished in second place.

Throughout the 2000s, other goalkeepers often played more for Japan. Because of this, Ryota played a total of 6 games for the national team until 2009.
