Ryan is a small village community located in the central south part of the Riverina region. The Riverina is a large area within the Australian state of New South Wales. It is known for its farming and beautiful natural areas.
Ryan is situated about 19 kilometres (12 miles) south-west of a town called Henty. It is also about 30 kilometres (19 miles) north-east of Walbundrie. These distances are measured by road.
Ryan's Railway History
For many years, Ryan was connected to other towns by a railway line. This line was known as the Rand branch railway line. Railways were very important in the past for transporting goods and people.
The Railway's Role
The railway helped the village of Ryan grow. It allowed farmers to send their crops to bigger towns and cities. It also made it easier for people to travel to and from Ryan. This connection was vital for the community.
When the Railway Closed
However, the Rand branch railway line eventually closed down. This happened in the year 1975. After the railway closed, people in Ryan had to rely on roads for transport. This change affected how goods were moved and how people travelled in the area.
