Ryan Alexander Hawley (born 21 September 1985) is an English actor. He is best known for playing the character Robert Sugden in the popular TV show Emmerdale. He played this role from 2014 to 2019 and returned to the show in 2025.

Early Life and Training

Ryan Hawley grew up in different places. He spent parts of his childhood in Sheffield, England, and also in the United Arab Emirates. This was because of his parents' jobs.

When he was in school, Ryan enjoyed acting in school plays. He realized he wanted to be an actor. After school, he went to a special drama school in London, England. This school was called The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. There, he trained to become a professional actor.

Acting Career

Ryan Hawley started his acting career in 2007. He appeared in many TV shows, movies, and plays. His first TV role was in an American series called Life Is Wild. He also acted in a film called Devil's Pass in 2013.

In 2014, Ryan got his most famous role. He was chosen to play Robert Sugden in the TV soap opera Emmerdale. He was the fourth actor to play this character.

He left Emmerdale in 2019 after five years on the show. However, in 2025, it was confirmed that Ryan Hawley would return to Emmerdale permanently.

Ryan Hawley married Daisy Prestes de Oliveira in 2013. They have two sons together. Their first son was born in 2021, and their second son was born in 2023.

Between 2023 and 2024, Ryan lived with his family in Brazil. He moved back to Britain to start his role as Robert Sugden in Emmerdale again.
