Ryan Christian Kwanten (born 28 November 1976) is an Australian actor and producer. He is famous for playing Vinnie Patterson in the Australian TV show Home and Away and Jason Stackhouse in the American fantasy series True Blood.
Kwanten started his career in Australia before moving to the United States to star in bigger shows and movies. He has acted in many different types of stories, from dramas and comedies to horror and science fiction. He has also worked as a producer, helping to create the shows he stars in.

Early Life and Education
Ryan Kwanten was born in Sydney, Australia, and grew up in a town called Terrigal, New South Wales. He has two brothers, Mitchell, who is a musician, and Lloyd, who is a doctor. His mother, Kris, worked for a charity, and his father, Eddie, who is Dutch, worked for a government marine agency.
For high school, Ryan went to St Paul's Catholic College. After graduating, he studied at The University of Sydney and earned a degree in commerce, which is the study of business and trade.
Acting Career
Starting in Australia
Kwanten began his acting journey on Australian television shows like A Country Practice and Hey Dad..!. His first big role came in 1997 when he joined the popular TV drama Home and Away as the lifeguard Vinnie Patterson. He played this character for five years and became a well-known face in Australia. In 2002, he decided to leave the show to look for new acting opportunities.
Moving to Hollywood
After leaving Home and Away, Kwanten moved to the United States. He was soon cast in the American teen drama series Summerland, where he played Jay Robertson. He also started appearing in movies. He was in the family film Flicka (2006) and had the main role in the horror movie Dead Silence (2007).
His biggest international role came in 2008 when he was cast as Jason Stackhouse in the HBO fantasy series True Blood. The show, which was about humans and vampires living together, was a huge hit and ran for seven seasons until 2014. Kwanten's performance made him famous around the world.
Recent Roles
Kwanten has continued to act in a variety of interesting projects. In 2010, he voiced the character Kludd in the animated movie Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole. He also starred in the Australian film Red Hill.
He played a superhero character in the short film Truth in Journalism (2013) and a Viking warrior in the action movie Northmen: A Viking Saga (2014). In 2015, he was the voice of the famous cartoon koala Blinky Bill in Blinky Bill the Movie.
From 2018 to 2019, he starred in and produced the crime drama series The Oath. More recently, he appeared in the science fiction film 2067 (2020) and the horror series Them (2021). In 2022, he played a key role in Kindred, a TV series based on a famous novel by Octavia E. Butler.
