Ryan Christian Kwanten (born 28 November 1976) is an Australian actor and producer. He is well-known for playing Vinnie Patterson in the Australian TV show Home and Away from 1997 to 2002. Later, he joined the American teen drama Summerland as Jay Robertson. From 2008 to 2014, he played Jason Stackhouse in the popular series True Blood. Ryan also produced and starred in the crime drama The Oath as Steve Hammond. In 2021, he was in the horror drama Them as George Bell. He also played Thomas Weylin in Kindred in 2022.

Early Life and Education
Ryan Kwanten was born in Terrigal, New South Wales, Australia. He grew up with two brothers, Mitchell and Lloyd. Their mother, Kris, worked for a charity, and their father, Eddie, worked for NSW Maritime. Eddie is from the Netherlands. Ryan's brother Mitchell is a musician, and Lloyd is a doctor. Ryan went to St Paul's Catholic College in Manly. He later studied commerce at The University of Sydney.
Ryan's Acting Career
Ryan Kwanten started acting in TV shows like A Country Practice and Hey Dad..!. He also appeared in Spellbinder: Land of the Dragon Lord.
Early TV Roles
In 1997, Ryan joined the cast of the Australian soap opera Home and Away. He played lifeguard Vinnie Patterson. He left the show in 2002 after his character got married and became a father. Before this, he had a small guest role on the show in 1994.
Moving to the United States
After leaving Home and Away, Ryan moved to the United States. He was cast as Jay Robertson in the TV show Summerland (2004–2005). He also appeared in movies like Flicka (2006) and the horror film Dead Silence (2007). In Dead Silence, he played the main character, Jamie Ashen.
Notable Roles and Voice Acting
In 2008, Ryan appeared in an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He played a US Marine Corps Master Sergeant named Dominic Pruitt. In 2009, he starred in the film Don't Fade Away.
A big role for Ryan was playing Jason Stackhouse in the HBO series True Blood. This show was based on the The Southern Vampire Mysteries books. It aired from 2008 to 2014. In 2010, he starred in the thriller movie Red Hill.
Ryan also does voice acting. In 2010, he voiced Kludd in the animated movie Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole. In 2013, he played the Marvel character "Venom" in a short film called Truth in Journalism. In 2015, he voiced Blinky Bill, a koala, in Blinky Bill the Movie.

From 2018 to 2019, Ryan produced and starred in the crime drama series The Oath. He played Steve Hammond. In 2019, he was also in the second season of Sacred Lies: The Singing Bones. He played Peter Wolfe, a father who was separated from his daughter.
His recent roles include the science fiction film 2067 where he played Jude Mathers. In 2021, he was in Them as George Bell. He also appeared in Kindred, a TV show based on a famous novel.
