Ryo Nishikido (錦戸 亮, Nishikido Ryō), born on November 3, 1984, is a Japanese singer and actor. He used to be part of a talent agency called Johnny & Associates. With them, he was a member of two popular Japanese boy bands: Kanjani Eight and News. He released his first solo music album in December 2019.

About Ryo Nishikido

Ryo Nishikido was born in Hyogo, Japan, on November 3, 1984, and grew up in Osaka. In 1997, he joined a group of young talents called Johnny's Jr.. He made his first big start in 2004 as an actor and singer with the pop band News. He was also one of the main singers and played guitar for Kanjani Eight. This was another boy band from Johnny & Associates, made up of young talents from the Kansai region of Japan.

Early Career and Acting

Ryo Nishikido had his first solo concert in 2006. He also began playing important roles in popular TV shows. Some of these included 1 Litre of Tears, Attention Please, and Last Friends. He won several acting awards for his work in Last Friends.

In summer 2010, Nishikido made his first appearance in a major movie. He played the main character in A Boy and His Samurai. In this film, he acted as a samurai who traveled through time to modern Japan and became a pastry chef. He also starred in the detective drama Joker: Yurusarezaru Sōsakan and the romantic comedy Full Throttle Girl in 2011.

Balancing Two Bands

From 2004 to 2011, Ryo Nishikido was busy with both News and Kanjani Eight. This was quite unusual for an idol. He released nine studio albums and went on tours across Japan with both groups. On October 7, 2011, Johnny & Associates announced that Nishikido would leave News. This was because it was hard for him to manage his schedule and be an active member of both groups at the same time.

Later Roles and Solo Work

Between 2012 and 2014, Nishikido took on main roles in comedy-dramas. These included Papadol!, which was partly based on his own life, The Fortune Telling Shop, Onmyoya, and Gomen ne Seishun. He also starred in the movies Hospitality Department and I Just Wanna Hug You.

As a member of Kanjani Eight, he also helped host TV shows like Kanjani8 no Janiben on Kansai TV. He appeared three times on the famous Kōhaku music show. He also acted in the action comedy films Eight Ranger and Eight Ranger 2 with his bandmates.

In 2018, Nishikido starred in Daihachi Yoshida’s dark comedy The Scythian Lamb.

Leaving Johnny & Associates

In March 2019, news came out that Ryo Nishikido was planning to leave Johnny & Associates. He officially announced in September 2019 that he would leave Johnny & Associates and Kanjani Eight at the end of that month.
