Ryuji Bando (播戸 竜二, Bando Ryūji, born August 2, 1979) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a forward for many clubs in Japan. He was also part of the Japanese national team.

Playing for Clubs: Ryuji Bando's Journey
Ryuji Bando was born in Himeji, Japan, on August 2, 1979. After finishing high school, he started his professional football career in 1998. He joined Gamba Osaka, a club in Japan's top league, the J1 League. He often played as a substitute forward.
Moving to Consadole Sapporo
In 2000, Ryuji moved to Consadole Sapporo, which was in the J2 League at the time. He scored 15 goals for them. His goals helped the team get promoted to the J1 League.
Time at Vissel Kobe
Ryuji then joined Vissel Kobe in 2002. This club was based in his home area, Hyogo Prefecture. He quickly became a very important player for the team. In the 2004 season, he scored 17 goals. This made him the third-highest goal scorer in the league that year.
Return to Gamba Osaka
In 2006, Ryuji went back to Gamba Osaka. He continued his great form, scoring 16 goals. His excellent performance led to him being called up to play for the national team.
In 2007, Gamba Osaka won the J.League Cup. The next year, in 2008, even though Ryuji was injured and couldn't play much, Gamba Osaka achieved something amazing. They won the AFC Champions League, which was their first ever Asian title! Gamba also won the 2008 Emperor's Cup. In the final match of the Emperor's Cup, Ryuji came on as a substitute. He scored the winning goal in extra time, which was a huge moment for the team.
However, in 2009, new players like Cho Jae-jin and Leandro joined the team. This meant Ryuji had fewer chances to play.
Playing for Cerezo Osaka and Other Clubs
In 2010, Ryuji moved to Cerezo Osaka, another big club in Osaka. He often played as a substitute but still managed to score 10 goals in 2011. By 2013, he wasn't playing as much. In July of that year, he moved to Sagan Tosu, but he still didn't get many games.
In 2015, he joined Omiya Ardija, a J2 League club. He played many matches that year, and Omiya Ardija was promoted to J1. From 2016 onwards, he played less often.
His last club was FC Ryukyu in the J3 League, which he joined in 2018. He played many games and helped the club win the J3 League championship that year. This meant FC Ryukyu was promoted to J2 for 2019. Ryuji left the club at the end of the 2018 season.
Playing for Japan: National Team Career
Ryuji Bando also played for Japan's national football teams. He represented his country at the Under-19 and Under-20 levels.
Youth National Team
He was part of the Japan U-20 national team that played in the 1999 World Youth Championship in Nigeria. This was a big international tournament for young players.
Senior National Team
Ryuji made his debut for the senior national team on October 4, 2006. This was in a friendly match against Ghana. He came into the game as a substitute in the 67th minute.
His first goal for Japan came just a week later, on October 11, 2006. He scored against India in a qualifying match for the 2007 Asian Cup. He was chosen to play in the main 2007 Asian Cup tournament, but sadly, he had to pull out due to an injury.
