Rónald Alberto Matarrita Ulate, born on July 9, 1994, is a professional football (soccer) player from Costa Rica. He plays as a left-back, which is a defensive position, for the club Liga Deportiva Alajuelense and for the Costa Rica national team.

Playing for Clubs
Starting with Alajuelense
Rónald Matarrita began his professional career with Alajuelense in Costa Rica. He played for them from 2012 to 2016. During his time there, he played in 67 games and scored 4 goals.
Time with New York City FC
In January 2016, Matarrita joined New York City FC in the United States. He played his first game for them in March 2016 against the Chicago Fire. His first goal for New York City was in June 2016, helping his team win 2–0 against Seattle Sounders FC. After his first year, he was named New York City's best defensive player for 2016. He played 106 games and scored 4 goals for them.
Moving to FC Cincinnati
Matarrita moved to FC Cincinnati in December 2020. He played 31 games for them and scored 3 goals. He left the club after the 2022 season.
Playing in Greece
In June 2023, Matarrita signed a three-year contract with Super League Greece club Aris. He played 1 game for them before returning to Costa Rica.

Playing for His Country
Matarrita has played for Costa Rica at different age levels, including under-17, under-20, and under-22 teams. He made his debut for the senior national team in September 2015 in a friendly match against Brazil.
He scored his first goal for Costa Rica in September 2016. It was in a World Cup qualification match against Panama, which Costa Rica won 3–1.
Matarrita was chosen to play in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. However, he had to miss the tournament because of a hamstring injury just three days before Costa Rica's first game. He has played 55 games for the Costa Rica national team and scored 3 goals.
Personal Life
In March 2017, Matarrita received his U.S. green card. This allowed him to be considered a local player for teams in Major League Soccer (MLS).
