Säter Municipality (Säters kommun) is a local government area in central Sweden. It is one of 290 such areas in Dalarna County. The main town and administrative center is Säter.

This municipality was formed in 1971. It brought together the old City of Säter and two nearby municipalities.

Säter is famous for its beautiful Säter Valley. This valley is about 5 kilometers long. It has lots of trees and plants, with steep sides. The Ljuster stream flows at the bottom. It is a popular spot for walks and exploring nature.

Old Churches and Mining History

The Old Church of Stora Skedvi is one of the oldest churches in Dalarna. Its oldest parts date back to the 1200s.

You can also find remains from the area's mining past. The Östra Silvberg's Mining Area is one such place. People started mining silver here as early as the 1480s. There is also an old cemetery and chapel nearby. The mine closed in the 1800s. Today, the mine itself is a large hole filled with water.

Another important mine was Bispbergs gruva. This mine was used for digging up iron for over 600 years. It finally closed in 1967.
