Samuel Robson "Rob" Walton (born October 27, 1944) is an American businessman. He is a very rich person whose family started Walmart, one of the world's biggest stores. Rob Walton is the oldest son of Helen Walton and Sam Walton, who founded Walmart. He was the chairman of Walmart from 1992 to 2015. As of December 2024, he is one of the richest people in the world. He also owns the Denver Broncos, a professional American football team.
Early Life and Education
Rob Walton was born on October 27, 1944, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is the oldest of four children. His parents were Sam Walton and Helen Walton. Sam Walton was the person who started Walmart. Rob has a younger brother named Jim Walton and a younger sister named Alice Walton. Another brother, John T. Walton, passed away in 2005.
Rob Walton went to the University of Arkansas. He earned a degree in business in 1966. After that, he studied law at Columbia Law School and finished in 1969.
Working at Walmart
After finishing law school, Rob Walton worked as a lawyer. He worked for a law firm that helped Walmart. In 1978, he joined Walmart as a senior leader. By 1982, he became the vice chairman.
On April 7, 1992, Rob Walton became the chairman of Walmart's board of directors. This happened just two days after his father, Sam Walton, passed away. He led the company for many years until 2015.
Giving Back and Sports
Rob Walton and his brothers and sister have given a lot of money to the Walton Family Foundation. This foundation helps many different causes. Between 2008 and 2013, they promised about $2 billion to the foundation.
In 2022, Rob Walton led a group that bought the Denver Broncos football team. They paid $4.65 billion for the team. This was a record for the most expensive sports team ever sold. Famous people like Condoleezza Rice and Lewis Hamilton also joined his ownership group. Rob Walton gave most of the daily control of the team to his son-in-law, Greg Penner.
Personal Life
Rob Walton has three children. He has been married three times. He married his third wife, Melani Lowman-Walton, in 2005. One of his children is Carrie Walton Penner.
Rob Walton is also known for collecting cars. He has many different kinds of automobiles.
