The Southern Railway 2-SL was a special type of electric multiple unit train. These trains were built for a specific job. They were designed to run on the busy South London lines in the United Kingdom.
These trains were part of the Southern Railway company's fleet. They were later used by British Rail too. However, they didn't stay in service long enough to get a special code called a TOPS class.

What Were Southern Railway 2-SL Trains?
The Southern Railway (SR) gave these trains the name "2SL." This name helped them keep track of their different types of trains. These trains were electric, meaning they ran on electricity. They were also "multiple units," which means they could be joined together to form longer trains. Each train set had two cars.
How Many 2-SL Trains Were Built?
Only a small number of these special trains were ever made. Eight of them were built in total. They were given fleet numbers from 1901 to 1908. Later, their numbers changed to 1801 to 1808.
When Were They Built and Used?
All eight of the 2-SL trains were built in 1929. They started their service in May of that same year. They were built at a place called Peckham Rye Works. These trains served passengers for many years. They were used by the Southern Railway. Later, they were also used by British Railways.
What Happened to the 2-SL Trains?
The 2-SL trains were in service for about 25 years. They ran from 1929 until 1954. After that, all eight of these trains were taken out of service. They were then scrapped, which means they were taken apart. None of the original 2-SL trains still exist today.
