Saasen is a small village in the middle of Germany. It's part of the municipality of Reiskirchen in a region called Central Hesse. Saasen is home to about 1,100 people.

The village is located right on the Wieseck River. It's just east of the main town of Reiskirchen. You can find it in the beautiful Busecker Tal valley. A major road, the Bundesstraße 49, is only a short distance away. Saasen even has its own train station, Saasen station, on the Vogelsberg Railway line.

Saasen is quite old! It was first mentioned in official papers way back in the year 1111.

Saasen is made up of nine smaller areas or settlements. Think of them like different neighborhoods within the village:

  • Saasen centre (Mittelstadt)
  • New housing estate
  • Old village (Altstadt)
  • Western village
  • Eastern village
  • Wirberg
  • Stromberg
  • Veitsberg
  • Bollnbach

Village Square

The main village square in Saasen is a charming place. It's surrounded by traditional German half-timbered buildings. The Wieseck River even flows right through it, adding to its beauty.

Bollnbach

Bollnbach is the largest part of Saasen. About 48 people live there today. In the middle of Bollnbach, you'll find a special Maibaum (Maypole). This pole has the names of all the families who live in the area. Bollnbach has only two main roads: Wirbergerstraße and Saasenerstraße. The "Schäferhaus," which is the main community hall, also stands in the center of Bollnbach.

Wirberg

Wirberg is a historic place near Saasen. It used to be a monastery, which is a place where monks or nuns lived and worked. It's located between Saasen and another village called Göbelnrod.

Church of Veitsberg

The Veitsberg Church is very old, with parts of it dating back to around 1250. It's built in a style called Romanesque architecture. Next to the church, in what used to be the schoolhouse, lived a famous person named Jacob Conrad Justus. From 1734 to 1785, he was the village schoolmaster. He was known as the "man of the calendar Veitsberg" because he was very good at math and science. He taught the children from Saasen and a nearby village called Lindenstruth.

The Wieseck River

The Wieseck River actually starts right here in Saasen! The village square was built on the eastern side of the river, on a small hill. This is also where the Wieseck River begins its journey.

Population Growth

Saasen has been growing quite a bit recently. In 2001, about 1,135 people lived here. By 2006, the population had grown to an estimated 1,200!

Sports in Saasen

Saasen has a well-known sports club called SV 1936 Saasen. This club is famous for its football team. But it's not just about football!
