Sabah III Al-Salim Al-Sabah (born April 12, 1913 – died December 31, 1977) was an important leader in Kuwait. He served as the Emir of Kuwait from 1965 to 1977. An Emir is like a ruler or a king of a country. Sabah Al-Salim Al-Sabah was the youngest son of Salim Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, who was also a ruler of Kuwait.
He became Emir after his half-brother, Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah, passed away on November 24, 1965. During his time as Emir, he made some big decisions for Kuwait. He passed away on December 31, 1977, due to cancer.

Early Life and Public Service
Before becoming the Emir, Sabah Al-Salim Al-Sabah held several important jobs in the government of Kuwait. These roles helped him gain experience in leading the country.
Key Roles Before Becoming Emir
- Police Directorate President: From 1953 to 1959, he was in charge of the police department. This meant he helped keep law and order in Kuwait.
- Public Health Department President: From 1959 to 1961, he led the public health department. This role focused on the health and well-being of the people.
- Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister: From 1962 to 1963, he served as the Deputy Prime Minister and also as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. As Foreign Minister, he represented Kuwait to other countries around the world.
- Prime Minister of Kuwait: From 1963 to 1965, he was the Prime Minister. This is a very important role, helping to run the government day-to-day.
On October 29, 1962, he was named the Crown Prince. This meant he was next in line to become the ruler of Kuwait.
His Time as Emir
Sabah Al-Salim Al-Sabah became the Emir of Kuwait in 1965. During his rule, Kuwait continued to grow and develop.
Important Decisions
One notable event during his reign was in August 1976. He decided to pause the parliament for four years. He believed this was necessary for the good of the country at that time.
