What the Savannah Palm Looks Like
The Savannah palm is a fan palm. This means its leaves spread out like a fan. It has a single, thin trunk. This trunk can grow very tall. It usually reaches about 15 to 20 meters (50 to 65 feet) high. The trunk is about 15 to 20 centimeters (6 to 8 inches) wide.
Leaves and Flowers
Each Savannah palm tree has many leaves. It usually has between 10 and 25 leaves. Each large leaf is made up of 90 to 150 smaller parts called leaflets.
The tree also produces inflorescences. These are groups of flowers that grow together. The flower clusters are branched. They are also longer than the leaves of the palm.
Fruit of the Palm
After the flowers, the Savannah palm grows fruit. These fruits are black. They can be shaped like a pear or be round, like a globose shape. Each fruit is small, about 0.8 to 1.1 centimeters (0.3 to 0.4 inches) across.
