Sabana Grande barrio-pueblo is a special part of Sabana Grande, a town in Puerto Rico. It's like the main downtown area or the "heart" of the municipality. In 2010, about 1,554 people lived here.
In Puerto Rico, just like in Spain long ago, each town has a special area called a pueblo. This pueblo usually has a main square (called a plaza), the town's important buildings like the city hall, and a Catholic church. Every year, fun festivals called Fiestas patronales (which celebrate the town's patron saint) are held in this central plaza.

The Heart of the Town: The Central Plaza
The central plaza, or town square, is a lively place. People gather here for fun events, or just to hang out and chat from morning until night.
Long ago, Spanish laws called the Laws of the Indies guided how towns in Puerto Rico were built. These laws said that the plaza should be big enough for "parties" (celebrations). They also said that the streets around the plaza should have comfortable walkways. These walkways would protect people from the sun and rain.
Right across from the central plaza in Sabana Grande barrio-pueblo is a beautiful Roman Catholic church. Its name in Spanish is Parroquia San Isidro Labrador y Santa María de la Cabeza.
A Look at Sabana Grande's History
After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a territory of the United States.
In 1899, the United States government took a count of all the people in Puerto Rico. They found that 2,531 people lived in Sabana Grande Pueblo at that time.
More recently, in July 2020, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) gave money to help fix up Sabana Grande's main plaza. Also in 2020, a part of the PR-368 road was named Fidel Vélez Vélez. This section goes from downtown Sabana Grande to a nearby town called Yauco.
