Sabrina the Teenage Witch is an American animated TV show. It was made by Filmation and shown on CBS on Saturday mornings. The show ran from 1970 to 1974. It was also shown later in the evenings as a syndicated series.
The series is based on the Sabrina the Teenage Witch comics from Archie Comics. It started as a spin-off from The Archie Comedy Hour. New episodes of Sabrina were shown along with a cartoon called Groovie Goolies. People who wrote the Archie Comics were surprised. Sabrina was a small character in the comics then. But Filmation chose her to be the main character in her own cartoon show.
The show's opening tells a fun story. It says there were three witches in Riverdale. Two aunts, Hilda and Zelda, were trying to make an evil witch. But they accidentally added "beautiful girls' stuff" to their mix. This created the "grooviest teenage witch." She has white hair with a pink headband and blue eyes. She wears a blue dress with a black belt and black shoes. Sabrina loves to have fun and fight bad guys. She uses her amazing magic powers. The show calls her the first "bewitching American superhero."
The series follows Sabrina, a teenage witch. She loves to spend time with her friends at Riverdale High. She also uses her magic to fight enemies. But she has to keep her magic a secret from her friends. This show was made mainly for young girls aged 6 to 14. It included a laugh track, which is a recording of people laughing. After its first season, the show became shorter. The Goolies got their own separate series.
Filmation made more Sabrina cartoons in 1977. This was for The New Archie and Sabrina Hour.
