Sadia Groguhé (Arabic: ساديا جروغوه; born November 9, 1962) is a French-Canadian politician. She has Algerian roots. From 1995 to 2000, she was a city councillor in Istres, France. Sadia Groguhé and her husband moved to Canada in 2005.

In 2011, she was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP). An MP is someone elected to represent people in the House of Commons of Canada. She represented the area of Saint-Lambert for the New Democratic Party. She ran again in 2015 but was not re-elected.

Early Life and French Career

Sadia Groguhé was born on November 9, 1962, in Istres, France. She was one of twelve children. Her parents were immigrants from Algeria. She earned a Master's degree and worked as a psychologist. She also helped her community.

In France, she worked to help young people and adults. She helped them find jobs and fit into society. She also taught people how to use a tool called transactional analysis. This tool helps understand how people interact. Sadia Groguhé was also the head of an equality group in Istres.

Becoming a City Councillor

In 1994, Sadia Groguhé ran for a local election as an independent candidate. Jacques Siffre, the mayor of Istres, noticed her. He was part of the Socialist Party. In 1995, she ran for city council and was elected.

She served as a city councillor from 1995 to 2000. Her job was to help people integrate into the community. She left her position after her children were born.

Moving to Canada

Sadia Groguhé and her husband decided to leave France. Her husband is from the Ivory Coast. They wanted their children to grow up without facing discrimination. They applied for visas in 2003 and moved to Canada in 2005.

Joining the New Democratic Party

Sadia Groguhé became a Canadian citizen in 2010. After that, she joined the New Democratic Party. This is a political party in Canada. She ran as a candidate for the party in the 2011 federal election.

She ran in the Montreal area called Saint-Lambert. She won the election, defeating the person who was already the MP. She received 42.65% of the votes.

Her Time as an MP

After she was elected, Sadia Groguhé got an important role. She became the assistant critic for immigration, citizenship, and multiculturalism. This meant she helped her party on these topics. She worked to make the immigration system better and more modern.

From 2012 to 2013, she was the Deputy House Leader for her party. This is a key role in the Official Opposition. The Official Opposition is the second-largest party in Parliament. Later, she became the Deputy Whip for her party. This role helps make sure all party members vote together.

She continued in her role as Deputy Whip until 2015. She ran for re-election in a new area called Longueuil—Saint-Hubert. However, she was not re-elected in the 2015 federal election.

Party Leadership Races

After Jack Layton, the leader of the NDP, passed away, Sadia Groguhé supported Thomas Mulcair. He became the new leader in 2012. In 2017, she supported Peter Julian in another leadership race. He later left the race.

After Federal Politics

After losing her seat in Parliament, Sadia Groguhé became a guidance counselor. In April 2017, she announced she would run for Mayor of Longueuil. This was for the 2017 Quebec municipal election. She finished third in the election.
