Sagan om Sune (which means The Tale of Sune in Swedish) is a fun children's book from Sweden. It was written by Anders Jacobsson and Sören Olsson and first came out in 1984. This book tells the story of Sune Andersson during his first year of school.

The stories in the book were first shared on a radio station called SR Örebro. Anders wrote the stories while he was in the military, and Sören drew the pictures. This book is even listed in Tusen svenska klassiker, which is a book that features a thousand important Swedish cultural works.

Meet Sune and His Friends

Sune Andersson is a seven-year-old boy. He is in the first grade at school. Sune is known as a "girl charmer," but he mostly likes Sophie, who is in his class. They have known each other since they were very little kids.

Besides hanging out with Sophie, Sune also goes to school and plays with his friend Joakim Fröberg. He often has little fights with his younger brother, "Håkan Bråkan". For example, Håkan once bit the legs off Sune's Donald Duck toys! The book starts by introducing all these main characters.

The "Good Day" Sickness

One Friday, as Sune was walking to school, he got a strange "Good day, good day" sickness. When you have this sickness, you can only say "Good day, good day." Luckily, it always goes away later. Sune tried to avoid answering questions at school.

During the Swedish lesson, his teacher asked him a question. Sune was caught because he could only say "Good day, good day." His teacher said that curiosity was the cure for this funny sickness.

Forest Battles

During a school break, a "war" broke out in the nearby forest. The first and second graders were fighting against the third graders using pine cones. Sune tried to help his friend Daniel, but he got into trouble with Bengt, a third grader. Bengt chased Sune until the school bell rang, saving him.

Home Life and Playtime

Sune also spends time with Sophie outside of school. One morning, Håkan woke Sune up by gently pulling on his eyelashes. Håkan also broke Sune's guitar. Sune responded by throwing pillows at him!

The children often play ball games near their apartment building. Even older kids from higher grades join in. One day, Cathrin Åkerlund from class 5A was counting during a game. She caught several people, including Sophie. Sune tried to free Sophie by kicking the ball.

The ball crashed into the apartment of a man people called "The Elusive Shadow." Rumors said he had sailed the seas and that his wife and children had disappeared. Joakim dared Sune to go get the ball. Sophie was brave and went with Sune.

It turned out there was no "Elusive Shadow." The man was just Alvin Hjalmar Edwin Gren, and he was not dangerous at all. He told them stories about his life as a sailor. He even shared how he was once put in prison in Tunis after fighting with a Greek man over a girl. He also explained that his wife and children had actually left him. Sune felt happy to know the real story.

Swimming Lessons

When Sune's class went for swimming lessons, they traveled by bus to the pool. Sune felt embarrassed because he did not know how to swim. When the class was divided into groups, he lied and said he knew how to swim. He tried to pretend he was swimming.

However, when the swimming instructor told them to go into the deep water, it became clear Sune could not swim. The instructor had to save him. Sune said not knowing how to swim was silly, but everyone told him that the whole point of swimming lessons was to learn. Sune was sent back to the smaller pool to learn the basics.

Finally, summer arrived, and Sune and his classmates finished first grade.

Audio Stories

Audio recordings of Sune's adventures were released on cassette tapes. SR Örebro released tapes called Sagan om Sune and Sagan om Sune del 2. EMI also released two tapes: Sagan om Sune in 1987 and "Sune får goddaggoddagsjukan" in 1988.

The tape "Sune får goddaggoddagsjukan" included several stories. Side A had "Sune får goddaggoddagsjukan," "Sune blir botad" (Sune is Cured), and "Bollen i burken" (The Ball in the Can). Side B had "Gäckande skuggan" (The Elusive Shadow), "Sune ska lära sig simma" (Sune Will Learn to Swim), and "Sune i badhuset" (Sune at the Bathhouse).
