Sage Creek is a small stream, about 4.05 mi (6.52 km) long, located in Surry County, North Carolina. It is a "second-order" stream, which means it forms when two smaller streams (first-order streams) join together. Sage Creek flows into the larger Fisher River.
Where Does Sage Creek Start and End?
Sage Creek begins in an area where water flows from a small, unnamed stream that also feeds into the Fisher River. This starting point is about 1.5 miles west of a place called Buck Mountain.
From its source, Sage Creek flows generally towards the southwest. It travels for a few miles before it meets and joins the Fisher River. This meeting point is located about 0.5 miles southeast of a town called Ladonia, North Carolina.
Understanding the Sage Creek Area
The area that Sage Creek drains, known as its watershed, covers about 2.18 square miles (5.6 km2). This means all the rain and snow that falls within this area eventually flows into Sage Creek.
Each year, the Sage Creek watershed receives a good amount of rain, about 48.1 inches. A large part of this area, about 66%, is covered by forests. These forests help keep the water clean and provide homes for many plants and animals.
