Sagittaria subulata var. kurziana (Glück) Bogin

Sagittaria kurziana, often called springtape or strap-leaf sagittaria, is a special kind of plant that lives in water. It is originally from Florida in the United States. You can also find it growing in the Mariana Islands, where it has spread and now grows naturally.

What is Springtape?

Springtape is an aquatic plant, which means it lives in water. It is a type of plant that grows back year after year, known as a perennial herb. It can grow quite tall, sometimes reaching up to 250 centimeters (about 8 feet) in height!

Where Does Springtape Grow?

This plant loves to grow in large natural springs. These springs often have a lot of sulfur in the water, which is a natural chemical element. Springtape also grows along the edges of rivers and streams that flow out from these springs. It creates big, flowing masses of leaves in the water.

What Does Springtape Look Like?

Springtape has very long, thin, and flat leaves. These leaves can be up to 250 centimeters long, but they are usually only about 15 millimeters wide. They float right on top of the water, looking like ribbons swaying with the current.

The plant's flowers grow on stalks called inflorescences. These flower stalks also float on the water's surface. The flowers themselves are white and are often completely underwater.
