Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, often called just Saint-Dié, is a town in northeastern France. It's located in the Vosges department in the Grand Est region. Think of it as an important local center, also known as a sub-prefecture, for the area.

Geography of Saint-Dié
Saint-Dié is found in the beautiful Vosges Mountains. It's about 80 kilometers (50 miles) southeast of Nancy. The town sits in a valley where the Meurthe River flows. This river valley has always been an important path for travel. It even got its first train line way back in 1864!
The town is also about 50 kilometers (31 miles) northeast of Épinal. You can reach Épinal by two main roads or by train. The area around Saint-Dié is surrounded by wooded mountains like Ormont, Kemberg, and La Madeleine. These mountains are about 550 meters (1,800 feet) high. They are made of a special red rock called "Vosges sandstone."
