Saint-Martin-des-Besaces was a small town, also known as a commune, located in the northwest of France. It was part of the region called Basse-Normandie and the department named Calvados.
On January 1, 2016, Saint-Martin-des-Besaces joined with several other communes to form a new, larger commune called Souleuvre-en-Bocage. This means Saint-Martin-des-Besaces no longer exists as a separate commune.
What is a Commune?
A commune is the smallest type of administrative area in France. Think of it like a local town or village. Each commune has its own mayor and local government. They manage things like local schools, roads, and public services for the people living there.
France has thousands of communes. They vary a lot in size, from tiny villages with just a few people to large cities like Paris.

Joining Souleuvre-en-Bocage
