A Look at Saint Maurice History
Saint Maurice has a connection to the past through a place called the St. Maurice Plantation. This historic plantation was located very close to the Red River. It was there until June 5, 1981.
Today, the part of the Red River where the plantation once sat is an "oxbow." An oxbow is a U-shaped lake or pond that forms when a river changes its path over time. The river cuts off a bend, leaving a separate body of water behind.
