Salam Shaker Alidad (Arabic: سَلَام شَاكِر عَلِيّ دَاد , born on July 31, 1986) is a football coach and former Iraqi professional player. He played as a centre-back, which means he was a defender who played in the middle of the field. Salam was an important part of the Iraqi team that finished fourth in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup. Today, he is part of the coaching team at Al-Khor SC.

About Salam Shaker
Salam comes from a Kurdish family, specifically from the Feyli tribe. His father, Shaker Alidad, was also a famous Iraqi football player. His dad played for Al-Talaba in the 1970s and 80s. It seems football runs in the family!
Salam's Club Career
Salam Shaker played for many different football clubs throughout his career. Here's a look at his journey:
Starting at Al-Karkh
Salam began his football journey at Al-Karkh SC, a club based in Baghdad. He played there before moving to Al Shorta SC in 2004.
Playing for Al-Shorta
After joining Al-Shorta, Salam played in all six of their matches in the 2005 AFC Champions League. He was a key player for them. In 2005, he signed with Iraqi Premier League club Al-Talaba.
Time at Al-Talaba
Salam played for Al-Talaba for one season in 2005. During that time, he played in 19 matches.
Winning Titles with Erbil
In 2006, Salam moved to Erbil SC. He stayed there for two seasons and helped the team win two league titles! This was a very successful period for him.
Long Stay at Al-Khor
Salam joined the Qatari club Al-Khor in 2008. He played there for more than seven years, appearing in over 100 matches. He even became the team captain for several seasons. Many people consider him one of Al-Khor's best players ever.
Return to Al-Shorta
In 2015, Salam briefly returned to Al-Shorta for one season. During that time, Al-Shorta finished third in the league.
Playing in Saudi Arabia with Al-Fateh
Salam signed with the Saudi club Al-Fateh FC in 2015. He played his first game for them on August 20, 2015. He scored his first goal for Al-Fateh in April 2016, helping his team win 1–0 against Al-Taawoun FC. Al-Fateh managed to avoid being moved to a lower league that season. Salam later left the club due to personal reasons.
Captain at Al-Ittihad Kalba
On July 4, 2016, Salam Shaker joined Al-Ittihad Kalba SC as a free player. He was named the captain of the team for the 2016/17 AGL Season. He scored his first goal for the club on April 15, 2017.
Salam's International Career
Salam Shaker also had a great career playing for his country, Iraq.
Early International Appearances
Shakir played for the Iraqi Olympic team that won a silver medal at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha. He was also called to play for the national B team in the 2007 King's Cup in Thailand. His first game for the main senior team was in January 2008. He played as a defender in a friendly match against Jordan, which ended in a 1–1 draw.
World Cup Qualifiers
Shakir played in two matches during Iraq's qualifying games for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. He played the whole game in a 1–1 draw against China. He also started in a 1–0 loss to Qatar. Later, Shakir became a regular starter for Iraq, often playing as a central defender alongside Ali Rhema. He played in all the 2014 World Cup qualification matches.
2015 AFC Asian Cup and Retirement
Salam Shaker was the main central defender for Iraq in the 2015 Asian Cup. The team performed very well and finished fourth in the competition. He even scored the winning penalty kick against Iran in the quarter-final match, which was a very exciting moment!
On March 29, 2016, Salam Shaker announced he was retiring from international football. This was just hours after he captained Iraq to a 1–0 win over Vietnam in a joint AFC and World Cup qualifying match. He said he wanted to give younger players a chance to play for the Iraqi national team.
