Salam Shaker Alidad (born 31 July 1986) is a football coach and a former professional footballer from Iraq. He used to play as a centre-back, which is a defensive position in football. Salam Shaker was a key player for the Iraqi national team, helping them reach fourth place in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup. Today, he works as a coach for Al-Khor SC.

Salam Shaker comes from the Kurdish people, specifically from the Feyli tribe.
His father, Shaker Alidad, was also a famous Iraqi football player. He played for Al-Talaba in the 1970s and 80s.

Starting at Al-Karkh
Salam began his football journey at Al-Karkh SC, a club based in Baghdad. After playing there for a while, he moved to Al Shorta SC in 2004.
Playing for Al Shorta
At Al-Shorta, Salam Shaker played in all six of their matches in the 2005 AFC Champions League. He was a strong player on the field. In 2005, he signed with Al-Talaba, another club in the Iraqi Premier League.
Time with Al-Talaba
Salam played for Al-Talaba for one season in 2005. During that time, he played 19 games and scored one goal.
Winning Titles with Erbil
In 2006, Salam joined Erbil SC. He stayed with them for two seasons and helped the team win two league titles!
Long Career at Al-Khor
Salam moved to Al-Khor in Qatar in 2008. He played there for more than seven years, appearing in over 100 matches. He even became the team captain for several seasons. Many people consider him one of the greatest players in Al-Khor's history.
Second Time at Al Shorta
Salam briefly returned to Al-Shorta in 2015. He played there for one season, and the team finished third in the league.
Playing in Saudi Arabia for Al-Fateh
In 2015, Salam signed with the Saudi club Al-Fateh FC. He played his first game for them on August 20. He scored his first goal for Al-Fateh in April 2016, helping his team win 1–0 against Al-Taawoun FC. After one season, Salam and Al-Fateh decided to end his contract early for personal reasons.
Moving to Al-Ittihad Kalba
On July 4, 2016, Salam Shaker joined Al-Ittihad Kalba SC as a free player. He was chosen to be the team captain for the 2016/17 season. He scored his first goal for the club on April 15, 2017.
Salam Shaker's International Career
Salam Shaker also had a very successful career playing for his country, Iraq.
Early International Games
He played for the Iraqi Olympic team that won a silver medal at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha. He also played for Iraq's B team in the 2007 King's Cup in Thailand.
Salam made his first appearance for the senior national team in January 2008. He played as a defender in a friendly match against Jordan, which ended in a 1–1 draw.
World Cup Qualifiers
Salam Shaker played in two matches during Iraq's qualifying games for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. He played the whole game in a 1–1 draw against China. He also started in a 1–0 loss to Qatar.
Later, Salam became a regular starter for Iraq. He and Ali Rhema were often the first-choice centre-backs. Salam played in all the 2014 World Cup qualification matches.
Asian Cup Success
Salam Shaker was the main centre-back for Iraq in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup. The team performed very well and finished in fourth place. Salam even scored the winning penalty kick against Iran in the quarter-final match, which was a very exciting moment!
Retirement from International Football
On March 29, 2016, Salam Shaker announced he was retiring from international football. This was just hours after he captained Iraq to a 1–0 win over Vietnam. He said he wanted to give younger players a chance to play for the Iraqi national team.
