What is Salamonie Dam?
Salamonie Dam is a special type of dam made from earth and rocks. It was built to help control the flow of the Salamonie River. This helps prevent floods and manages the amount of water in the area.
Building the Dam
The United States Army Corps of Engineers built Salamonie Dam in 1966. It's a really tall structure, standing 133 feet high. The dam is also very long, stretching 6100 feet across the river. The Corps of Engineers still owns the dam. It is operated by them and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
