Salunga is a small community located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It is known as a census-designated place (CDP). A CDP is a special area that the government defines for counting people, even though it's not officially a city or town with its own local government.
In 2010, about 2,695 people lived in Salunga. Before 2010, Salunga was part of a larger CDP called Salunga-Landisville. But for the 2010 census, it became its own separate CDP, along with Landisville.
Where is Salunga Located?
Salunga is in the northwestern part of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. It sits across two different areas called townships: West Hempfield Township and East Hempfield Township.
To its east, Salunga borders another community called Landisville. A major road, Pennsylvania Route 283, runs along the northeastern edge of Salunga. This road is a four-lane highway, which means it has lots of space for cars. You can get onto Route 283 from an exit at Spooky Nook Road.
Route 283 is very helpful for getting around. If you drive southeast for about 8 miles (13 km), you'll reach Lancaster, which is the main city of the county. If you drive northwest for about 30 miles (48 km), you'll arrive in Harrisburg, which is the capital city of Pennsylvania.
Land and Water in Salunga
The United States Census Bureau keeps track of land and water areas. They say that the Salunga CDP covers a total area of about 4.7 square kilometers (1.8 square miles). Most of this area is land. Only a tiny part, about 0.03%, is water.
A stream called Chiques Creek flows past the northwestern side of Salunga. This creek travels southwest until it reaches the large Susquehanna River.
