Salunga-Landisville is a special area in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States. It's known as a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it's a community that the government counts for population, even though it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.

This area actually combines two smaller places: Salunga and Landisville. In 2010, about 4,588 people lived here. This was a small decrease from the 4,771 people counted in 2000.

The name "Salunga" comes from a nearby creek. This creek was once called Chiquesalunga, which is now known as Chickies Creek. The original name came from the Lenape people. It meant "place of the crayfish". Landisville got its name from John Landis, who was the first postmaster there.

Who Lives in Salunga-Landisville?

In 2000, there were 4,771 people living in Salunga-Landisville. These people made up 1,763 households and 1,394 families.

Most of the people living here were White (96.06%). There were also smaller groups of African American (1.07%) and Asian (1.74%) residents. About 1.63% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.

Many households (39.4%) had children under 18 living with them. About 69.5% of households were married couples living together. The average household had 2.70 people. The average family had 3.06 people.

The population included people of all ages. About 27.5% were under 18 years old. About 30.0% were between 25 and 44 years old. And 11.8% were 65 years or older. The average age of residents was 39 years.

Parks and Outdoor Fun

Salunga and Landisville have two great parks for everyone to enjoy. These are Amos Herr Park and Salunga Park. Both parks have a pavilion, which is a covered area perfect for picnics or gatherings.

Amos Herr Park offers even more activities. It has tennis courts and a basketball court for sports fans. There's also a volleyball court. If you love baseball, you'll find two baseball fields. Kids can have fun on the playgrounds. There are also large grassy fields for soccer and other outdoor games.

Sports Teams in the Area

Salunga-Landisville is home to the Lancaster Inferno soccer club. This club has teams that play in two different leagues:

  • The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL)
  • The Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL)

Both of these leagues are recognized by FIFA, which is the international governing body of soccer. The Lancaster Inferno teams play their games at Hempfield High School's stadium. This stadium has been updated with a modern artificial turf field.
