Playing for Clubs
Salvatore Bagni started his football journey with a club called Carpi from 1975 to 1977. After that, he moved to Perugia, a team in Italy's top league, Serie A. He played well there from 1977 to 1981.
Time at Inter and Napoli
His good performances led him to join one of Italy's biggest clubs, Inter, where he played from 1981 to 1984. With Inter, he helped the team win the Coppa Italia in 1982. This is a big cup competition in Italy.
Bagni is best known for his time at Napoli, where he played from 1984 to 1988. This was a very successful period for him and the club. In 1987, Napoli won their first-ever league title (the Scudetto) and also the Coppa Italia in the same season. This was a huge achievement! At Napoli, Bagni often played alongside another midfielder, Fernando De Napoli. They worked together to protect the defense and help the team's superstar player, Diego Maradona, create attacks.
After leaving Napoli, Bagni played one season for Avellino in 1988–89 before he stopped playing professional football. In total, he scored 52 goals in Serie A matches.
Playing for Italy
Salvatore Bagni also represented his country, Italy, in football.
Youth and Olympic Teams
He played for the Italy national under-21 football team from 1978 to 1980. He scored 5 goals in 12 games for the Under-21 team, including three goals in one match against Greece. He also played in the 1984 Summer Olympics, where the Italian team reached the semi-finals and finished in fourth place.
Senior National Team

He scored his first goal for Italy on February 4, 1984, in a 5–0 win against Mexico. He scored that goal very quickly, after only 20 seconds! For many years, this was the fastest goal ever scored by an Italian player in an international match.
Bagni was part of the Italian squad for the 1986 FIFA World Cup. He wore the number 10 shirt in that tournament.
How He Played
Salvatore Bagni was known as a very hard-working and generous player. He was a tough tackler, meaning he was good at winning the ball back from opponents. He also had good technique and was a great team player.
He usually played as a central midfielder, a box-to-box midfielder (meaning he covered a lot of ground), or a defensive midfielder. His main job was to win the ball back and then start attacks for his team. Because of his tough and energetic style, he earned the nickname "The Warrior."
Even though he was mostly known for winning the ball, Bagni also had a good eye for goal. Earlier in his career, he sometimes played in more attacking roles, like a winger or even a forward, showing his ability to score goals.
