Samuel Lincoln Seder (born November 28, 1966) is an American actor, political commentator, and media host. He is known for his progressive political views, which he shares on his popular daily talk show, The Majority Report with Sam Seder.

Seder is also an actor who has appeared in movies and TV shows. Many people know him as the voice of Hugo the health inspector and Harold Cranwinkle on the animated TV show Bob's Burgers. He has also directed and written his own films, like Who's the Caboose? (1997).

Personal life

Growing up and education

Sam Seder was born into a Jewish family in New York City. He grew up in Worcester, Massachusetts, where his father was a well-known lawyer.

After high school, Seder went to Connecticut College and earned a degree in Religious Studies. He then started studying law at Boston University. However, he decided law wasn't for him and left to become a comedian.

In Boston, he became friends with other comedians who would later become famous, including Janeane Garofalo, David Cross, Marc Maron, and Sarah Silverman.

Family and beliefs

Seder was married and has two children, a daughter named Myla Rae and a son named Saul. He and his wife later divorced.

Seder is a Reform Jew. He believes religion is a personal matter and should be kept separate from government.

Seder's career has included work in radio, television, and online media. He is most famous for hosting political talk shows.

Radio and early shows

In 2004, Seder began co-hosting a radio show called The Majority Report on Air America Radio with Janeane Garofalo. The show discussed politics from a progressive point of view.

In 2007, his daily show was canceled, and he hosted a Sunday show for a while. During this time, he also filled in for other radio hosts. He started a video webcast with his friend Marc Maron called Breakroom Live with Maron & Seder. The show ended when Air America shut down in 2010.

The Majority Report podcast

After Air America closed, Seder didn't give up. In November 2010, he launched his own independent online show, which he later named The Majority Report w/Sam Seder. It is a podcast, which is like a radio show that you can listen to online anytime.

The show is very similar to his old radio program. Seder and his co-hosts talk about the news, share their political opinions, and interview guests. The show is funded by viewers through a website called Patreon, which allows fans to support creators directly.

The Majority Report became very successful. It won the People's Choice Podcast Award for "News and Politics" five times between 2011 and 2017.

Other work

Besides his own show, Seder has worked on many other projects. He sometimes hosted the TV show Countdown with Keith Olbermann and co-hosted the radio program Ring of Fire. He also worked as a political commentator for the news channel MSNBC.

In March 2025, Seder appeared on a web show where he debated 20 supporters of Donald Trump. A video of the debate went viral, meaning it spread very quickly online and was watched by millions of people.

2017 tweet issue

In 2017, Seder faced a problem because of a tweet he had written in 2009. The tweet was a joke meant to criticize people who were defending the film director Roman Polanski.

A political opponent found the old tweet and brought it to the attention of journalists. At first, MSNBC decided not to continue Seder's contract. However, many journalists and fans defended Seder, explaining that the tweet was satire (a type of humor used to criticize something). After hearing this, the president of MSNBC said the first decision was a mistake, and Seder kept his job.
