Marc David Maron (born September 27, 1963) is an American stand-up comedian, podcaster, writer, and actor. He is known for his honest and often funny observations about life.
In the 1990s and 2000s, Maron was a frequent guest on popular late-night talk shows. He appeared many times on Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Conan O'Brien. He also hosted Comedy Central's Short Attention Span Theater from 1993 to 1994.

Early Life and Education
Marc Maron was born in Jersey City, New Jersey. His mother is Toby and his father is Barry Ralph Maron, who was an orthopedic surgeon. Marc has a younger brother named Craig.
Maron comes from a Jewish family. His family originally came from Poland and Ukraine. He lived in Wayne, New Jersey until he was six years old. Maron's father joined the U.S. Air Force for two years. During this time, the family moved to Alaska.
When his father left the Air Force, they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. His father started a medical practice there. Maron lived in Albuquerque from third grade through high school. He graduated from Highland High School. In 1986, Maron graduated from Boston University. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature.
Career Highlights
Marc Maron first performed stand-up comedy in 1987 when he was 24. His comedy career began at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles. He later moved to New York City and became part of the New York alternative comedy scene.
Maron continued to perform stand-up and also appeared on television. His voice was used in episodes of Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist. He also hosted Short Attention Span Theater. He recorded special comedy shows for HBO and Comedy Central Presents. He also performed at charity events with other comedians like Jon Stewart and Denis Leary.
His first one-man show, Jerusalem Syndrome, was performed for a long time off-Broadway in 2000. It was later released as a book in 2001.
In May 2008, he toured with comedians Eugene Mirman and Andy Kindler. In January 2009, he started a daily video show with Sam Seder called Breakroom Live with Maron & Seder. This show was broadcast live from the break room of Air America Media.

Maron's stand-up comedy often involves him sharing personal stories. He talks about his relationships with family, friends, and other comedians. In October 2013, Maron released his first hour-long comedy special on Netflix, called Marc Maron: Thinky Pain. He followed this with another special, More Later, released in December 2015.

Radio Work
Marc Maron was a co-host on the talk radio network Air America starting in 2004. He co-hosted Morning Sedition, a three-hour show that included comedy sketches and interviews. The show had a loyal fan base.
In 2006, Maron began hosting a nighttime radio program in Los Angeles called The Marc Maron Show. This show was also streamed online. In 2008, he and Sam Seder expanded their weekly video webcast into a daily show called Maron v. Seder, which later became Breakroom Live with Maron & Seder. This show was canceled in July 2009 due to financial reasons.

Film and Television Roles
Maron had a small role in the 2000 film Almost Famous. He played an "angry promoter" in the movie. He also appeared in the 1997 mockumentary Who's the Caboose?. In 2019, Maron starred in the comedy film Sword of Trust. In 2020, he played publicist Ron Oberman in the movie Stardust.
In 2012, he provided the voice of Magnus Hammersmith in three episodes of Metalocalypse. Maron also made two guest appearances as himself on his friend Louis C.K.'s show Louie.
The television series Maron, created by and starring Marc Maron, premiered on IFC on May 3, 2013. The show was based on Maron's life as a comedian who hosts a podcast from his garage. Maron appeared in all 51 episodes of the show from 2013 to 2016. The show ended in 2016 after four seasons.
Maron played a supporting role in Todd Phillips's 2019 film Joker, which starred Joaquin Phoenix. He also voiced the raccoon Randl on the Nickelodeon show Harvey Beaks from 2015 to 2016. He appeared in the Netflix series Easy and on two episodes of Girls in 2015.
From 2017 to 2019, Maron co-starred in the Netflix comedy GLOW. For this role, he was nominated for several awards. He also had a supporting role in the 2022 film To Leslie. He played the role of landlord Gideon Perlman in the Amazon web series The Horror of Dolores Roach.
Music
In 2013, Maron played a guitar solo on the song "Party at the NSA" by the music duo Yacht. This song was inspired by news about government surveillance programs. Money from the song helped the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a group that protects digital rights.
Maron also wrote and performed music for his film Sword of Trust.
Personal Life
Marc Maron lived in Astoria, Queens, for many years. He moved back to Los Angeles in late 2009. Maron often talks about taking care of stray cats that he brings into his home. ..... After his cat Boomer went missing, Maron started saying "Boomer lives!" at the end of each podcast. He later added Buster Kitten to his "Cat Ranch." His cats LaFonda and Monkey passed away in 2019 and 2020. He now ends his podcast with guitar playing and the phrase "Boomer lives... LaFonda... Monkey... Cat angels everywhere!" Maron currently lives in Glendale, Los Angeles, with his two cats, Buster and Sammy.
Maron has been married twice. His relationships have often been a topic in his comedy. He was previously in a relationship with director Lynn Shelton, who directed him in Sword of Trust. They were together until her passing in 2020. As of 2023, Maron was dating a woman named Kit.
