Late Show with David Letterman was a very popular American late-night TV show. It was a talk show and a variety show. The show was hosted by the famous comedian David Letterman. It aired on the CBS television network.

The Late Show was on TV for a long time. It started on August 30, 1993. The very last episode aired on May 20, 2015. Over the years, the show won many important awards. These included Emmy Awards and TCA Awards.

The Show's Music and Announcers

A big part of the show was its live band. This band was called the "CBS Orchestra." It was led by the talented musician Paul Shaffer. Before joining the Late Show, Paul Shaffer was also on the TV show Saturday Night Live.

The show also had an announcer who introduced David and the guests. From 1993 to 1995, Bill Wendell was the announcer. He retired in 1995. After him, Alan Kalter took over. Alan was the announcer until the show ended in 2015.

After David Letterman left, a new show took its place. This show was called The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The new host was Stephen Colbert. His first episode aired on September 8, 2015.
