Samora Muhammad Yunis (Amharic: ሳሞራ መሐመድ ዩንስ) is a respected military officer from Ethiopia. He was born in the Tigray Region in the northern part of the country. Samora Yunis rose through the ranks to become a very high-ranking general, holding four stars. He was eventually named the Chief of the General Staff for the Ethiopian National Defence Forces in 2001. He served in this important role until 2018.

As Chief of General Staff, General Yunis was in charge of the entire Ethiopian military. He helped make big decisions about the country's defense. He served in this role for many years, guiding the armed forces.

During his time as Chief of General Staff, General Yunis was involved in important discussions. For example, in 2007, he was part of a group that met in Jijiga. They discussed how to respond to certain events affecting the country.

General Yunis's time as Chief of General Staff came to an end on June 7, 2018. He was replaced by General Seare Mekonen.

International Recognition

In 2017, General Yunis received a special award from Sudan. He was given the Order of the Two Niles. This award shows that his service was recognized beyond Ethiopia's borders. It is a sign of good relations between the two countries.
