Samuel Abbott Ferrin (born January 19, 1831 – died March 29, 1875) was a Canadian-American doctor and politician. He moved to the United States and became a member of the Republican Party. In 1872, he represented Grant County in the Wisconsin State Assembly. He also worked as a surgeon for the Union Army during the American Civil War.
Early Life and Medical Career
Samuel Ferrin was born on January 19, 1831, in a place now known as Saint-Thomas, Quebec. He studied medicine and graduated from Rush Medical College. This prepared him to become a doctor.
During the American Civil War, Samuel Ferrin joined the Union Army. He first served with the 32nd Wisconsin Infantry Regiment. Later, he became a surgeon in Wingville, Wisconsin. He was then made the First Assistant Surgeon for the 44th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment, helping soldiers who were injured.
