Samuel Adams Sr. (born 1689, died 1748) was an important person in early American history. He was a brewer, which means he made drinks. He was also the father of Samuel Adams, who became a famous Founding Father of the United States. Samuel Adams Sr. was also a cousin to another important figure, John Adams.

Samuel Adams Sr.'s Life and Work

Samuel Adams Sr. was born in Boston on May 16, 1689. His parents were Captain John Adams and Hannah Adams. He was a deacon in the Congregational Church. This meant he was a leader in his church community.

He was also a member of the Boston Caucus. This was a group of important people in Boston who met to discuss politics. He worked with another well-known person named Elisha Cooke.

In 1740, Samuel Adams Sr. helped start something called a Land Bank in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. At that time, there wasn't much gold or silver money. The Land Bank aimed to help trade by using paper money instead. However, in July 1741, the British government's House of Commons decided to close the Land Bank. This meant that people who owned parts of the bank became responsible for its debts.

Samuel Adams Sr.'s Family

In 1713, Samuel Adams Sr. married Mary Fifield. She was born in 1694 and also passed away in 1748. They had twelve children together. However, only three of their children lived to become adults. One of their surviving children was Samuel Adams, who later became a very famous American leader. Samuel Adams Sr. passed away in 1748.
