The Samuel Freeman House is a special home in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles, California. It was built in 1923 by the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright. This house is so important that it's listed in a few big history books! It became a part of the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. It's also a California Historical Landmark and a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument.
A Unique Design
The Samuel Freeman House is a great example of Wright's unique building style. He used a design called "Mayan Revival" architecture. This style looks a bit like ancient Mayan temples.
Textile Block Houses
This house is also special because it's one of only four "textile block" houses Wright built. These homes are made from concrete blocks with patterns. The blocks look like woven fabric, which is why they are called "textile blocks."
The other three textile block houses in Los Angeles are the Storer House, Ennis House, and Millard House. Wright's own son, Lloyd Wright, helped manage the building of the Samuel Freeman House.
A Home with a History
In 1986, the Freeman House was given to the USC School of Architecture. This means it became a place for students to learn about architecture.
Keeping the House Safe
Over the years, the house needed some repairs. In 2005, a big project helped make the house strong again. This project used money from a special grant and funds from the school. It helped keep this amazing piece of history safe for the future.
