The Samuel Harrison House is a special historic home located at 82 Third Street in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Built around 1850, this house was once the home of Reverend Samuel Harrison. He was a very important African-American minister from 1818 to 1900.
Reverend Harrison served as a chaplain for the brave 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War. This regiment was famous for being one of the first African-American military units in the United States. Because of its history, the house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

Samuel Harrison's Historic Home
The Samuel Harrison House is on the east side of Third Street. It is in a neighborhood northeast of Pittsfield's main Park Square. This house is a one-and-a-half-story wooden building. It has a pointed roof and a porch that runs along its south side.
The House's Style
The house shows a simple style called Greek Revival. This means it has design elements inspired by ancient Greek temples. For example, it has details on the gables (the triangular parts of the roof) and a round, sturdy column supporting the porch. Part of the porch at the back is enclosed.
Who Was Samuel Harrison?
Reverend Samuel Harrison was a significant figure in American history. He was born in 1818 and became a respected minister. During the Civil War, he played a crucial role as a chaplain. A chaplain is a minister who serves in the military. He supported the soldiers of the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment.
