Moyer's Role in Government
In 1652, Samuel Moyer helped with something called the Hale Commission. This group looked closely at the laws of the country. They helped to make the legal system better. Moyer was also one of many people who supported Parliament. These people had homes in a place called Clapham Surrey. His friends, like Richard Salwey and William Kiffin, also lived there.
In 1653, Moyer became an Alderman for the City of London. An Alderman is like a local council member. Soon after, he was chosen to be a Member of Parliament for the City of London. This was for a special Parliament known as the Barebones Parliament. In the same year, he became the leader of the Mercers' Company.
He also served as the acting president of the Council of State. This was an important group that helped run the country. He held this role for about a month in 1653. By 1659, he was in charge of a group in London called the Committee for Compounding. This group dealt with money matters. In 1659, he also presented an important request to the House of Commons. Later Life
In 1661, Samuel Moyer was arrested. He was accused of a serious crime against the government. He was held in the Tower of London. This was a famous prison. He stayed there until 1667. His brother, Laurence, helped him get released.
