What is the Garden of Eden?
Samuel Dinsmoor built a special home and garden that he called the Garden of Eden. He moved into a cabin made of logs. This cabin is a twelve-room house. The logs are actually made from limestone rocks found near Wilson Lake.
The Garden's Unique Art
Dinsmoor spent the rest of his life creating this amazing garden. It has more than 200 sculptures made of concrete. These sculptures and the design of his house show what Dinsmoor believed in. He was part of the Populist Movement, which was a political group that supported ordinary people. His art also showed his strong religious beliefs.
What Sculptures Can You See?
One famous sculpture is called Labor Crucified. It shows a worker being treated unfairly. Around this figure are people Dinsmoor believed were responsible for the worker's struggles. These include a doctor, a lawyer, a preacher, and a capitalist (someone who owns businesses).
Where is Samuel Dinsmoor Buried?
Samuel Dinsmoor and his first wife, Frances A. Barlow Journey, are buried right inside the garden. They rest in a special building called a mausoleum. Visitors can see Dinsmoor in his concrete coffin. It is sealed behind a glass wall. Inside the mausoleum, there is also a special photo. It shows a living Dinsmoor looking at his own body in the coffin.
