Samuel Stanfield Singer (born May 2, 1920 – died November 13, 1989) was a Scottish clergyman. A clergyman is a leader in a Christian church. Samuel Singer was an important leader in the Scottish Episcopal Church. He served as the Dean of Glasgow and Galloway for many years, from 1974 to 1987.
Samuel Singer's Church Journey
Samuel Singer was born on May 2, 1920. He went to college at Trinity College, Dublin. After his studies, he decided to become a church leader. He became a deacon in 1943 and then a priest in 1944. These are important steps in becoming a church minister.
His first job was helping out at Christ Church in Derriaghy, Northern Ireland. From 1945 to 1947, he worked as a Minor Canon at Down Cathedral. A Minor Canon helps with the daily services and duties in a large church.
After this, Samuel Singer worked in Wirksworth. He then became the Vicar of Middleton, Derbyshire. A Vicar is like the main pastor of a church. Later, he became the Rector of All Saints Church in Glasgow. A Rector is also a lead minister, often in charge of a parish.
His most important role was becoming the Dean of Glasgow and Galloway. He held this position from 1974 until 1987. The Dean is a senior leader who helps manage a diocese, which is a large church area. Samuel Singer passed away on November 13, 1989.
