San Carlos is a small community located in the northwestern part of East Falkland. It sits south of Port San Carlos and next to San Carlos Water. People sometimes call it "JB" because of a past owner named Jack Bonner.

This settlement has several buildings, including a house with a small cafe. This cafe also offers fun craft activities. San Carlos is also home to a small museum. This museum celebrates the history of the Falklands War and shares information about the local nature and culture.

What is the History of San Carlos?

San Carlos got its name from a ship called San Carlos. This ship visited the area way back in May 1768. The settlement started to grow a lot in the early 1900s. This was because a factory was built there to freeze sheep meat. This factory helped the community become bigger.

San Carlos and the Falklands War

In 1982, San Carlos played a very important role in the Falklands War. During this conflict, it became the main landing spot for the British Army. This important area was given the secret code name "Blue Beach." It was a key place for soldiers to arrive and set up their operations.

Today, you can visit a museum in San Carlos that remembers this time. There is also the Blue Beach Military Cemetery at San Carlos. This cemetery honors those who were part of the war.
