San Diego de la Unión is a city and a municipality in Mexico. It is located in the northwest part of the state of Guanajuato.
This area covers about 990 square kilometers. That's about 3.26% of the whole state of Guanajuato. San Diego de la Unión shares its borders with other places. To the north, it borders San Luis Potosí. To the east, it borders San Luis de la Paz. To the south, you'll find Dolores Hidalgo, and to the west, it borders San Felipe.
In 2005, about 34,088 people lived in this municipality. By 2011, the population had grown to 39,663 people.

History of San Diego de la Unión
The area known as San Diego de la Unión was first established in 1719. When it was founded, it had a different name: Pueblo de Bizcocho.
How the City Got Its Name
The city later changed its name to San Diego de la Unión. This new name honors San Diego de Alcalá. He was a very important person, known as the patron saint of Franciscan lay brothers.
Local Government
The leader of San Diego de la Unión is called the municipal president. This person is in charge of the city and its many smaller communities. There are 236 communities that are part of the municipality.
Juan Carlos Castillo Cantero served as the municipal president from 2015 to 2018. He was responsible for leading the local government and helping the people of San Diego de la Unión.
