San Luis de la Paz is a city in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. It is also the name of the larger area, called a municipality, that surrounds the city. You can find San Luis de la Paz in the northeastern part of Guanajuato.

The city was started on August 25, 1552. It was built as a protective town along the Spanish Silver Road. This was an important route that connected the silver mines in Zacatecas with Mexico City. This happened during the time when Spain ruled Mexico, known as New Spain.

San Luis de la Paz got its name from a peace agreement. This agreement was made between the Otomi Indians, who were friends with the Spanish, and the native Chichimeca people. The peace treaty happened on August 25, which is the day of Saint Louis of France. Because of its history, San Luis de la Paz is also known as the Chichimeca Nation.
