The San Mateo Mountains are a small mountain range located in New Mexico, a state in the southwestern United States. These mountains stretch across parts of Cibola and McKinley counties.

The tallest point in this mountain range is Mount Taylor. It stands very high at 11,301 feet (3,445 meters). The San Mateo Mountains are found just northeast of the town of Grants. They are also about 60 miles (100 kilometers) west of the city of Albuquerque. It's good to know that there is another mountain range with the same name in Socorro County, but it is located further south.
