Sanarate is a lively city located in the El Progreso department of Guatemala. It is the main town for the Sanarate Municipality. With about 20,976 people (from a 2018 count), Sanarate is the second biggest city in El Progreso. Only Guastatoya, the capital city of the department, is larger.

Exploring Sanarate and Its Villages
The Sanarate area includes the main town of Sanarate and 43 smaller villages. These villages are called aldeas in Spanish.
Popular Villages
Some of the most well-known villages are El Upayon, Agua Salobrega, Los Izotes, and El Monte Grande. Each village has its own special charm and community.
El Barranquillo's Festivities
El Barranquillo is one of the many villages that belong to Sanarate. This village celebrates its "Virgen de Fatima festivities" every year. These fun events usually run from October 28 until November 1 or 2.
The celebrations become even bigger because of a national holiday. This holiday is called "El Día de los Santos," which means "All Saints' Day." During these festivities, visitors can enjoy many exciting activities. There are lively soccer games to watch. You can also try delicious local food. Plus, there are fun mechanical games for everyone to enjoy.
Government and Leadership
Sanarate is led by a mayor. The current mayor is César Rodas. He belongs to a political group called the UNE party. The mayor helps manage the city and its services for the people.
