Community Life in Sanctuary Point
Sanctuary Point has a strong sense of community. Many groups work together to help people living there. One important group is the Bay and Basin Community Resources.
Bay and Basin Community Resources
The Bay and Basin Community Resources is a special group. It's a non-profit organization, which means it doesn't try to make money. Instead, it uses its funds to help the community. This group started in 1990. Its main goal is to provide helpful services to local people. It's one of the biggest providers of these services in the Shoalhaven region.
Helping Older People
This organization offers many services for older people. These include:
- The Bay and Basin Respite Day Care Service
- Shoalhaven Neighbour Aid
- Carers Support Group
- Shoalhaven Dementia Respite Service
- The Bay And Basin Community Resources Aged Care Centre
In 2001, more than 30 staff members worked for the group. Over 70 volunteers also gave their time to help.
Community Projects and Events
The Bay and Basin Community Resources also helps with bigger projects. They worked hard to get the Bay and Basin Leisure Centre built. This center opened in September 2001. The group also helped get money from the Australian Government for a sculpture outside the center. They even helped design the sculpture!
The organization often holds community events. These events help raise awareness about important social topics. For example, they have held events to talk about keeping children safe.
Transport and Radio Services
In August 2001, after the Sydney Olympics, the group received a special gift. They got an old Olympic minibus! This bus helps transport older, frail, and disabled residents in the area. A local government official, Wayne Smith, said the group was a "leading provider" of care. They help many different people in the community.
In July 2006, the Bay and Basin Community Resources got a permanent license for a community radio station. This station is called Bay and Basin FM. They often broadcast live from local events. This helps connect the community through music and news.
