In 2020, about 1,252 people lived in Sandia Knolls. This community is part of the larger Albuquerque metropolitan area.

Geography of Sandia Knolls

Sandia Knolls is located in the northeastern part of Bernalillo County. It sits at the southern end of a smaller mountain called Monte Largo. To the west of Sandia Knolls are the Sandia Mountains.

The community shares a border to its north with an undeveloped part of the town of Edgewood. Other nearby communities include San Antonito and Sandia Park, which are about 3 miles (4.8 km) to the west.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the total area of Sandia Knolls is about 2.8 square miles (7.2 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no significant bodies of water.
