Sandra Bookman is a well-known American television news reporter and anchor. Born on October 8, 1959, in Beaumont, Texas, she has had a long and successful career in journalism. She is currently a reporter and anchor at WABC-TV in New York City, where she helps deliver the news to many viewers.
Sandra Bookman's Career Journey
Sandra Bookman joined WABC-TV in New York City in 1998. Before that, she worked at WSB-TV in Atlanta, Georgia, from 1989 to 1998. There, she was a weekend anchor and reporter. Her career also included working as a weekend anchor at WRAL-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina, and at KFDM in her hometown of Beaumont, Texas.
At WABC-TV, Sandra Bookman is a familiar face. As of July 2025, she co-anchors the noon weekday editions of Eyewitness News. She also previously co-anchored the 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 11 p.m. weekend editions of the show.
Awards and Special Reporting
Sandra Bookman has been recognized for her excellent reporting with three Emmy Awards. These awards celebrate outstanding achievements in television. One of her Emmy Awards was for her coverage of the Olympic Games. She also received an award for her reporting on the aftermath of the Valuejet Airlines crash in the Everglades.
Bookman was an Olympic Reporter for ABC News for seven years. She was the only reporter based in Atlanta to cover the Olympic Games from before the city won its bid to host, all the way through to the Olympic bombing in 1996. She also reported from the 1992 Olympic Games held in Barcelona, Spain.

Sandra Bookman studied journalism at the University of Texas, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree. She currently lives in Manhattan, a borough of New York City.
