Important Museum Buildings
The museum is not just in one building. It uses several historic places around Sant Boi. Each building has its own story and helps tell the history of the town.
Can Barraquer
Can Barraquer has been the main home of the Sant Boi de Llobregat Museum since March 26, 2011. This building is a very old manor house from the 14th century. A very important person named Rafael Casanova lived and died here. He was the last "Conseller en cap," which means the head minister of the Council of One Hundred in Barcelona.
Can Torrents
Can Torrents is another old manor house, built in the 16th century. This building used to be where the museum held its exhibitions. Now that Can Barraquer is open, Can Torrents holds the museum's technical offices. It is also the main office for the town's historic records.
Roman Baths
The Roman baths in Sant Boi are very special. They are the best-preserved private Roman baths in all of Catalonia. They were built around the end of the 2nd century. This was a time when the Llobregat valley was doing very well economically. The baths were used regularly until the 5th century. They were discovered in 1953 and opened as a museum in 1998.
Benviure Tower
The Benviure tower is an old circular defense tower. It was built in the Romanesque style. Its walls are almost 2 meters thick! Digs around the tower have found items from both Iberian and Medieval times. The tower has been fixed up recently. You can now take guided tours to explore it.
