History of Sant Guim de Freixenet
Sant Guim de Freixenet has an interesting past. During the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939), this area saw a lot of fighting. The war caused many difficulties for the people living here.
Back then, the town was called Pineda de Segarra. Because of the tough times during the war, the town even printed its own special paper money!
The main part of the town today used to be known as Sant Guim de l'Estació. This name came from the fact that it grew up around the railway station. This station was on the train line connecting Lleida and Manresa.
Over time, many people from the smaller villages around Sant Guim de Freixenet moved to bigger cities. This means some of these villages now have very few people living in them.
