Santa Rita is a town located in Honduras, a country in Central America. It is also a municipality, which means it has its own local government area. Santa Rita is part of the Yoro Department, which is a larger region in Honduras. The Humuya River flows through this area.
As of 2023, the town of Santa Rita has about 15,230 people living there. The entire municipality, which includes the town and surrounding areas, has a population of around 21,536 people.
History of Santa Rita
Santa Rita has a long history that goes back many years. In 1684, the area was known as a small settlement called Benque La Laguneta. Over time, it grew and changed its name to the village of Santa Rita El Negrito.
The place officially became a town in 1959. This happened when parts of the nearby municipality of El Negrito were joined together to form the new town of Santa Rita.

The people who live in Santa Rita come from different backgrounds. In 2013, a census was taken to count everyone and learn about them.
Most people in Santa Rita are Mestizo, meaning they have mixed European and Indigenous heritage. About 9.20% of the people are White, and 0.77% are Black or Afro-Honduran. A small number, about 0.17%, are Indigenous, and 0.12% are from other groups.
