Santaella is a village located in the province of Córdoba, Spain. In 2006, about 6,002 people lived there. By 2018, the population grew to 6,014. It is a small but historic place.

Discover Santaella's Past: A Journey Through Time
The land where Santaella stands has always been a popular place for people to live. Settlements here began around 150,000 BC. People have lived in this area without stopping ever since.
Early Settlers and Ancient Civilizations
The rich land and good water supply made it a perfect spot. Many different groups and cultures came to Santaella. Pre-Roman natives, the Roman civilization, and other groups lived here. The Hispanic-Moslem world also played a big part. All these groups left their mark on the city we see today.
Santaella's Re-conquest and Independence
King Fernando III took back Santaella around the year 1240. Later, his son, Alfonso X, gave Santaella to the city council of Cordoba.
Much later, King Felipe II gave Santaella its own independence. This meant it could make its own rules. After that, it became a marquisate, which is an area ruled by a marquis. In 1735, Santaella became fully independent again.
